Brick by Brick is a reentry work training program for formerly incarcerated young men ages 18 to 24. Roots of Renewal purchases blighted properties in Central City and teaches formerly incarcerated men how to renovate them. During our four-month construction job training program, our program participants learn various skills in construction including carpentry, drywall, siding, flooring, painting, and more. In addition to learning these valuable job skills, our program participants also take part in professional development classes, where they engage with skills like interviewing and financial management.
We provide a living wage to each of our program participants, and we refer them to our many non-profit partners around the city to meet their personal needs, such as mental health care, housing, and childcare.  At the end of the Brick by Brick program, the renovated home is sold at an affordable rate to a first time home buyer from the community, and we place each of our program participants in meaningful long-term employment.
